(August 24, 2023) — Please congratulate Firefighter Scott Larson for serving the Town of Haddam for the past 35 years!
Scott joined Haddam Volunteer Fire Company in August 1988 and was promoted to the rank of Firefighter in October 1989. Since 2011, he’s served as the president of the Haddam Volunteer Fire Company, which oversees Haddam Volunteer Fire Company and Haddam Neck Volunteer Fire Department.
Throughout his tenure, Scott has served as radio engineer, banquet committee chairperson, representative to the Board of Directors, press secretary, communications engineer, and as a member of the Fireman’s Ball committee, John Cernan Fund committee, fundraising committee, membership committee, and picnic committee.
He’s currently the chairperson of the company’s truck committee, which is working to replace two engines and a rescue vehicle within the next three years. He’s also served as the company’s radio engineer since 2001.
In addition to his multitude of administrative roles, Scott’s dedication to the town spans beyond the fire company. For 11 years, he served as the director of Haddam’s Emergency Management.
Scott, a life-long resident of Higganum, joined the company’s Junior Division at the age of 17.
Scott’s grandfather, Emil Webber Modehn served with the company from 1945 to 1953; his uncle, Life Member Emil Webber Modehn Jr. served in the 1950s and 60s; and his aunts, Janice Foster and Carol Modehn are founding members of HVFC Auxiliary.
“Embracing the call to serve as a volunteer firefighter isn’t just about fighting fires; it’s been an incredible journey serving my hometown and working alongside men and women from all walks of life who all share the common goal of making a difference to our neighbors in need,” he said.
During the company’s monthly meeting on August 7, 2023 HVFC Chief Sam Baber awarded Scott his 35-years-of-service pin (pictured). In 2018, Chief Baber honored Scott with the Chief’s Award for exemplary service to the fire company.
Please thank Firefighter Scott Larson for his dedication to the Town of Haddam!
