Truck Company Operations!

(April 3, 2023)—For the second year in a row, we have been able to bring students together from multiple Firefighter I classes to conduct a joint Truck Company Operations day. We are currently running Firefighter I programs at the Haddam Neck Fire Department and Clinton Fire Department. Each program spent the last week learning the ins and outs of search, ventilation, and ground ladders.

Yesterday students and instructors braved the rainy weather and got to the drill ground to build on those skills.

Topics covered included:

Single FF Ladder Raise
2 and 3 FF Raises
VEIS
Roof Ladder Deployment and Use
Flat Roof Ventilation
Peaked Roof Ventilation

By bringing the programs together, students get to network with other students learning the same material as them and build relationships that can last throughout their fire service careers. We have found this particular practical skills day to be very successful. We will be planning a similar style Engine Company Operations program for alter this month.

Special thanks to:

Essex Fire Engine Co. #1 for the use of their training facility
Westbrook Fire Department for their tower ladder and equipment
Clinton Volunteer Fire Department for their engine and equipment
Haddam Neck Volunteer Fire Department for providing lunch to all participants

Partnerships with these departments help to make a successful learning experience for all of our students.
