2018 marks the 30th year anniversary of Haddam-Killingworth High School’s annual Holiday Show. The TV studio is excited to announce that this year’s beneficiary is “After the Storm.” The H-K TV students vetted numerous organizations this year. While the choice was difficult, this year’s organization was chosen to show support for the numerous women battling breast cancer in our community.
“After the Storm” is a nonprofit organization founded by HK graduate Christine Willett, a breast cancer survivor whose mission is to help heal cancer survivors emotionally, physically, and spiritually. They believe anyone living with cancer is a survivor and their goal is to help them cope with the treatment so they can focus on life and living. (More information about their organization can be found at https://www.afterthestorminc.org). Students are passionate about this year’s cause because there are women within the RSD17 community dealing with breast cancer and students want to show their support. One survivor from H-K said that “After the Storm” was an important part of her recovery, furthering the importance of this cause.
Community connections are a tradition of the Holiday Show. Last year the proceeds were used to create a scholarship in honor of Patsy Kamercia. The Holiday Show is a highly anticipated event as it is almost entirely student-run. The show consists of but is not limited to student films, performances, interviews, and hosts (which student auditions are held for). If your group or organization would like to get involved by fund raising for this years telethon contact the shows producer Chuck Lewis via email at clewis@rsd17.org
