(September 19, 2022)—The Haddam-Killingworth High School Girls Soccer team secured their first win of the season with a 5-0 rout against North Branford/Nathan Hale-Ray on September 17, 2022. The Cougars defense, led by Caroline Conte and Payton Rich, prevented any shots from being taken today. While no shots were taken, goalkeepers Vyv Laurenza and Ryleigh Johnson combined to communicate effectively, providing direction and support for HK. On the scoring side, it didn’t take long for HK to get on the board.
Sammy Ruimerman had a breakaway in the first two minutes to record the first goal of the game. Minutes later, Leah Walton cruised down the left side of the field and nicely placed the ball in the net for the second goal, while Julia Favalora closed out the first half for HK, scoring the third goal. The midfield once again was strong in the middle with Emmy Kehlenbach and Maggie Singer continuing to control the tempo for the Cougars.
HK didn’t let up after the half. Freshman Chloe Felder beat her defender in a one on one situation, providing a great pass to fellow freshman Maddie Sanderson, who got a shot on goal and scored. Felder continued to pressure the attack and got her first goal of the season, finishing the scoring drive by the Cougars with eleven minutes left in the game. From there, HK focused on possession, passing and making runs. HK’s record improves to 1-1-1. Their next game is away on Monday, September 19th, against Valley Regional at 3:45pm. Their next home game is Thursday, September 22nd, vs. Old Lyme at 3:45pm.
