Cross Country 2023: HKHS Girls Place First and Boys Third in Brewster Bears Invitational

(October 12, 2023) — The Haddam Killingworth High School Boys and Girls Cross Country teams traveled to Brewster High School in Brewster, New York on October 8, 2023 to compete in the Brewster Bears Invitational against teams from New York and Connecticut.

The Boys Varsity team ran well on the muddy 3.1 mile course to place third out of thirteen schools overall as a team in the Varsity 2 race with 80 points.  The Boys were led by junior Jack Cozean, who crossed the line in a time of 16:53 to place sixth in the race.  He was followed across the line by teammates Daniel McCourt, who ran 17:15 (11th), Luke Hedges 17th (17:32), Matt Lara 21st (17:42) and Cash Smigel 25th (17:51) to round out the team scoring.

The Girls team placed first as a team in the Varsity 2 race with 55 points.  They were led by Freshman Charlotte Behnke, who placed fifth in a time of 20:30.  She was followed by Grace Mitchell 8th (20:53), Kira Sehl-Albert 11th (21:12), Delaney Aronson 18th (22:13) and Emi Schweitzer 23rd (22:41).

 
The cross country team will next be in action on October 19, 2023, as they compete in the Shoreline Championship Meet at Hammonasset State Park in Madison.  The meet begins at 1:30 p.m. Come out to support the team!
