October is widely known for breast cancer awareness month. Many local athletes love to honor this by wearing pink socks, pink cleats and other items pink! I have always felt if the athletes were wearing pink they should also be doing something for breast cancer awareness month. Well our athletes at Haddam Killingworth High School did just that!
HK Girls Volleyball hosted a Dig Pink Game for the Dig Pink Campaign. Their efforts were to raise $435 for game changing stage IV breast cancer research.
Girls Field Hockey hosted a “Play for a Cure” bake sale fundraiser on October 11, 2019. The girls also wore pink socks and had the field lined in pink. Their proceeds of over $200 went to the National Foundation for Cancer Research.
HK Girls and Boys soccer along with the Football and Cheer teams also wore pink socks, pink bows, and lined their field with pink. They ran a bake sale and sweatshirt sale. Together their efforts raised $1,176 dollars for the Middlesex Comprehensive Breast Center.
How lucky we are to live in a community where families, athletes, Teachers, and Administrators all support these fundraising efforts.
I hope in the future we can continue to do our part for those in need and especially help our young adults learn the value of giving.
