HK Rec Dept: Summer 2019 Sports Camps

Everson Soccer Clinic

Younger players will learn the fundamentals and develop skills in a safe, nuturing and non-competitive environment. This program is for boys and girls ages 3-11 and meets on Tuesdays, July 9 through August 6, 5:00-6:00 p.m. (ages 3&4), 6:00-7:00 p.m. (ages 8 -11) or Thursdays July 11 through August 8, 5:00-6:00 p.m. (ages 3&4), 6:00-7:00 p.m. (ages 5-7) at Killingworth Recreation Park. The fee is $65 each session. Non-residents please add $10.

Chris Corkum’s Baseball Camp

This camp is for boys and girls ages 7 – 12 and meets Monday through Friday from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at HKHS Softball Field. The dates are June 24 – 28. The fee is $120 ($5 discount for 2nd child). Non-residents please add $10. Chris Corkum brings out the best in young athletes of all levels. Daily features include individual and small group instruction in fielding, throwing, hitting, pitching, base running, and game strategy. Players should bring a bat, glove, water and snack or lunch. Fee includes a T-shirt.

Summer Basketball Clinic

New to basketball or just want to improve your skills? Then sign up for this summer basketball clinic and learn the fundamentals of basketball through various drills, small sided games and scrimmages. This is a great clinic to prepare for the next season of basketball! This camp is for boys and girls entering grades K –6 and will be held Monday & Wednesday, June 24 & June 26 at the HK Central Office Gym. Children in grades K – 2 will meet from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. and Girls in grades 3-6 will meet from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. The fee is $25 each session (non-residents add $10).   *There is a minimum of 8 to run this program.

Skyhawks Volleyball

This camp is for boys and girls ages 10 – 14 and will be held Monday – Friday, June 24 – 28 at the HK High School Field House or HK Middle School Gym (TBD) from 9:00 – 1:00 p.m. The fee is $129. Non-residents please add $10. Skyhawks Volleyball takes the energy and excitement of this great team sport and puts it together into one fun-filled camp. All aspects of the game are taught through drills and exercises that focus on passing, setting, hitting and serving. This co-ed program is designed for the beginning and intermediate player. Our volleyball staff will assist each athlete in developing fundamental skills through game-speed drills and daily scrimmages aimed at developing the whole player. The participant-to-coach ratio is approximately 12:1. Please bring 2 snacks, water bottle, and knee pads. Fee includes a T-shirt, ball & player evaluation.

Skyhawks Golf

This camp is for boys and girls ages 5 – 10 will be held Monday – Wednesday, July 1 – July 3 at the HK High School Multi-use Field from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The fee is $105. Non-residents please add $10.

Boys and girls will learn the fundamentals of swinging, putting and body positioning. Using the Short Golf system (an official license of the PGA tour), equipment is designed for beginning golfers to help build confidence and to have fun. It simplifies instruction so that young players can make an easy and effective transition onto the golf course. No need to bring your own clubs, all equipment is provided. For safety reasons, the instructor to camper ratio is low. Please bring 2 snacks, bathing suit, towel and water. Includes a t-shirt & player evaluation. Includes pool time from 11:30-12:15pm.

Skyhawks Basketball Camp

A camp for boys and girls entering grades K –5 will be held Monday through Friday, July 8 – 12 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the HK HS Field House or HK MS Gym TBD. The fee is $129 (non-residents add $10). This fun, skill-intensive program is designed with the beginning to intermediate player in mind. Using our progressional curriculum, our basketball staff focus on the whole player, teaching your child the skills needed both on and off the court to be a better athlete. Each day will start with a “skill of the day” and progress into drills and games. After a week of passing, shooting, dribbling, and rebounding, your child will show you why this is one of our most popular programs. Participant-to-coach ratio is approximately 8:1 (gr. K – 2) and 10:1 (gr. 3 – 5). Please bring 2 snacks, water bottle, & sneakers. Fee includes a T-shirt, ball, and player evaluation. Campers will be divided by age groups. 

Running Rams

This camp is for boys and girls ages 5 – 15 and will be held Monday through Friday, July 15 – 19 at the HK High School Track from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. The Fee is $135 (non-residents add $10). The camp will feature instruction in many track and field disciplines from some of the area’s best coaches. Each day will also include a fun activity, such as ice cream sundae night and pizza night. Participants will receive a t-shirt and awards at the conclusion of the program. *All participants must be 5 years old at the start of the program.

Skyhawks Flag Football

The HK Recreation Department is offering Flag Football for boys and girls ages 7 – 12 and will be held Monday – Friday, July 22 – July 26 at the HK HS Multi-Use Field from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. The fee is $129. Non-residents please add $10. Skyhawks Flag Football is the perfect program for your young athletes who want a complete introduction to America’s Game or for those who simply want to brush up on their skills in preparation for league play. Through our ‘skill of the day’ campers will learn skills on both sides of the ball including the core components of passing, catching, and de-flagging or defensive positioning – all presented in a fun & positive environment. Recommended for beginner to intermediate athletes. The week ends with the Skyhawks Sports Bowl. Participant-to-coach ratio is approximately 12:1. Please bring 2 snacks, water, cleats, sneakers, & sunscreen. Fee includes a T-Shirt & player evaluation. 

Skyhawks Mini-Hawk Camp (Soccer, Basketball, Baseball)

This is an introductory multi-sport program for children ages 4 – 7 and meets Monday through Friday at the HK HS Back Field week of July 15 – 19 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and August 12 – 16 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. The fee is $129 each session. Non-residents please add $10. This multi-sport program gives children a positive first step into athletics. Baseball, basketball and soccer are taught in a safe, structured environment with lots of encouragement and a big focus on fun. Our Mini-Hawk games and activities were designed to allow campers to explore balance, movement, hand/eye coordination, and skill development at their own pace. Skyhawks staff are trained to handle the specific needs of young athletes.

Participant-to-coach ratio is approximately 8:1. Please bring 2 snacks, water bottle, glove, shin guards & sunscreen. Fee includes a T-shirt, ball, and player evaluation.

Skyhawks Lacrosse Camp

This camp is for children in ages 7 – 10 and meets Monday through Friday, July 15 – 19 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the HK HS Multi-Use Field. The fee is $129. Non-residents may register for an additional $10. Lacrosse combines the basic skills used in soccer, basketball and hockey into one fast-paced, high-scoring game. Learn all the fundamentals of stick handling, cradling, passing, and shooting in a fun, non-checking environment. Our staff helps campers learn not only the sport of lacrosse, but also important life skills such as respect, teamwork, and discipline. This camp ensures that every athlete will come away with a deep understanding of the game and its traditions. This is an introductory skills camp, so helmets and protective gear are not necessary.  Please bring 2 snacks, stick & water bottle. Fee includes a T-shirt & player evaluation.

Skyhawks Beginner Tennis

The Haddam-Killingworth Recreation Department is offering a Beginner Tennis program for boys and girls ages 3 – 6 and will be held Mondays from June 24 – July 22 at Sheldon Park. Children ages 3-4 will meet from 5:00 – 5:45 p.m. and children ages 5 – 6 will meet from 6:00 – 6:45 p.m. To create a successful learning environment, we have made modifications to our traditional tennis program. The court is smaller and has shorter nets, and the racquets are smaller, and the balls are foam. With these modifications, any young child can immediately begin playing tennis, even if he or she has never picked up a racquet before. In addition to developing a love for tennis, athletes will learn the rules and etiquette that make tennis such an exciting game to play. The participant-to-coach ratio is approximately 6:1. Due to limited court space, these programs fill up quickly. Please bring water, sneakers, a 19”-21” racquet & wear sunscreen. Includes a t-shirt & player evaluation.

Skyhawks Tennis Academy

Skyhawks Tennis camps are for children ages 6 – 12 and meets Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Camps are held from June 24 – 28 at the HKHS Tennis Courts, July 22 – 26 at Sheldon Park, and August 5 – August 9 at the HKHS Tennis Courts. The fee is $129 each session. Non-residents please add $10. Grab your tennis racquet and get ready to play! Whether you’re a beginner, an intermediate or an advanced player, this program will improve your game and help you get more enjoyment from tennis.

Skill levels and ages will be divided accordingly. Our tennis programs focus on skill refinement as well as practice and match play to develop consistent, well-rounded tennis players. Each player is given personal

attention and taught through repetition in an enjoyable, lively atmosphere. Skyhawks tennis breaks down the fundamental skills of tennis through easily understood games and exercises to help improve the athlete’s overall coordination and technique. Players learn proper grips, footwork, strokes, volleys and serves during a series of drills designed to teach skills in a fun and dynamic way. In addition to developing a love for tennis, athletes will learn the rules and etiquette that make tennis such an exciting game to play. Due to limited court space, these programs fill quickly. Please bring: tennis racquet, appropriate clothing, water bottle, sneakers, sunscreen, two snacks, and water. Includes T-shirt and player evaluation. 

UK International Soccer Camp

The Haddam-Killingworth Recreation Department is offering Soccer Camp run by UK International this summer from July 29 – August 2 at HKHS Multi-Use field. The camp will be held from 9:00-12:00 pm for boys and girls entering ages 6 – 12 and will be from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. for kids ages 4 – 6. The fee is $125 for the 3-hr camp and $87 for the 1.5 hour camp (includes shirt and ball). There is a $5 discount for the 2nd child. Non-residents please add $10. Younger players will learn the fundamentals through fun games, small-sided games, as well as be introduced to attacking, defending, and rules of the game. Older players will develop themselves through challenging game related situations. The focus will be on technical development, functional and positional practices, tactical decision making, and advanced concepts and fitness. Participant to player ratio is 12:1. Staff are certified coaches from Europe, and USA and have played professional or semi-professional soccer. Visit www.uksocca.com. Fee includes shirt and ball. Skyhawks Multi-Sport Camp (Soccer, Basketball, Baseball)

This is an introductory sports program for children ages 7 – 12 and meets Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the HK High School the week of August 12 – 16. The fee is $129. Non-residents please add $10. This multi-sport camp is designed to introduce young athletes to a variety of different sports in one setting. For this program, 3 sports are combined into one fun-filled week. Athletes will learn the rules and essentials of each sport through skill-based games and scrimmages. By the end of the week, your child will walk away with knowledge of three sports along with vital life lessons such as respect, teamwork, and self-discipline. Participant-to-coach ratio is approximately 10:1. Please bring 2 snacks, water bottle, shinguards, & sunscreen. Fee includes a T-shirt, ball, and player evaluation.

Academy International Field Hockey Camp

The HK Recreation Department is offering a Field Hockey camp for students entering grades 7 – 12 this summer from August 19 – 23. It will meet Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the HKHS School Field Hockey Field. The fee is $275. Beginning players will be introduced to the fundamentals and rules of the game as well as develop stronger stick handling skills. Advanced players will sharpen their skills and focus on strategies for attack, defense and midfield as well as improve their overall performance. Coaches all possess either national team, collegiate or premier club playing experience. Visit www.academyinternational.net. Includes a T-shirt and player evaluation. CT Elite Basketball Camp

CT Elite Basketball Academy focuses on training and preparing campers for the next level of their basketball journey. This Camp is for Boys and Girls entering grades 5 – 8. The camp will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Session 1 (boys) will be held July 29 – August 2 at the HK Middle School Gym and Session 2 (girls) will be August 5 – 9 at the HK Middle School gym. Through drills, lectures, and structured games, campers improve their basic skills and knowledge of fundamentals. Campers learn how to not only play the game but also think the game. CT Elite Camps pride themselves on creating a unique basketball camp experience. Players participate in plyometric training to increase endurance, speed and explosiveness.
