(August 20, 2019) — The HK Masters Swim Team recently returned from the Lake George Open Water Swim competition in Hague, N.Y., with five swimmers competing in races of 2.5 kilometers, 5 kilometers and 10 kilometers.
In the 5k (3.1 miles), Ann Faust of Haddam won her 60-64 age group with a time of 1:41.22 and placed 29th overall. Laura Grimmer, also of Haddam, placed third in the 50-54 age group in 1:54.20 and was 47th overall.
In the 2.5k (1.55 miles), Tony Mirabelli of Higganum finished in 59 minutes and 50 seconds, and Liz Glidden of East Haddam finished in 1:15.54.
Team captain Jim Grimaldi of Higganum was the sole team participant in the grueling 10k, or 6.2 miles. He finished in 4:05.20.
The HK Masters is coached by Haddam-Killingworth High School senior and All-State swimmer Zachary Houlton. The team swims Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 6:00 a.m. at the high school. For more information, contact Jim Grimaldi at jimgrimaldi52@gmail.com.
