Baseball 2023: HKHS Wins Class S State Championship!

(June 12, 2023) — Callen Powers struck out ten and allowed only one earned run as Haddam-Killingworth High School defeated Coventry 6-2 on June 9, 2023, giving the Cougars their first state championship.

Dylan Coon led off the fourth inning with a double, and Jackson Pray and Matt Shea followed with hits for HK’s first runs. Luke Mauri delivered a big two-run double to give the Cougars a 4-2 lead after falling behind 2-0. HK went on to plate two more runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by Todd Butler’s two-run single to make it 6-2.

Blake Kamoen came on in the seventh inning to retire Coventry in order, giving
the Cougars their first State Baseball Championship. Coventry finished the year 19-7.
