Higganum Woman Wins Book Award

Submitted by Jennifer Rosado

(April 20, 2023) — Jennifer Rosado of Higganum has won the “Independent Press Award” for her book, “My Alternate Universe: Anxiety, Autism, and Adventure in a Parallel Reality.

Rosado won in the category of Memoir in a competition judged by experts from different aspects of the book industry, including publishers, writers, editors, book cover designers and professional copywriters.

Rosado lives in Higganum with her husband and son and works as a tutor for
Regional School District 17. “My Alternate Universe: Anxiety, Autism, and
Adventure in a Parallel Reality is her debut memoir and is not an
instruction manual for traveling to other dimensions. It’s not a self-help book
for conquering anxiety. It’s also not a how-to guide for raising a child with
autism.

It is a memoir in which Rosado tells the story of her son’s challenging childhood years, her need for control, and her lifelong battles with
anxiety; also, the ways her son’s diagnosis of severe autism changed her
perspective and view of the world. It’s about her journey of acceptance,
adaptation and self-discovery, living a life completely unlike the life she had
expected, in a strange, humbling, enlightening alternate universe. She is honored and excited to use this opportunity to spread awareness about
autism and mental health issues.
