Haddam River Days 2019

Submitted by Robin Munster.

(Sept. 9, 2019) — This year’s Haddam River Days was one of the best. The weather was fantastic. Many families brought picnics to enjoy on the field. Several brought their corn hole games to pass the time until dark when the fireworks would start.   Best of all, no kids were sighted playing on electronic devices. It was amazing to see so many children running around on the field, kicking soccer balls or throwing footballs as the day slid into evening. In short, it was a great community event.

Local organizations set up tents or tables. Both political groups had tents and sold items such as hot dogs, cotton candy, fried dough, sodas, water, sausage grinders and cannolis. Other groups sold kettle corn, ice cream sundaes or gave collapsible straws, glow sticks and other items to promote their organizations.

The local Lions Club members directed traffic and the parking area filled up nicely. The fireworks display featured lots of pyrotechnics, including some hearts and smiley faces which brought on many “oohs” and ‘”ahs” from the residents who enjoyed the show. With the help of the Lion Members and the local troopers, everyone was able to disperse safely.
