The passage of the 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1920 which gave women the right to vote deserves to be celebrated. Due to Covid-19 there are restrictions on gatherings so a few women in Haddam Neck decided to spread the word throughout the community that a car parade to celebrate the 19th amendment would take place on Sunday, August 23, 2020 starting at the Haddam Neck Firehouse.

Twenty cars took part in the parade, many decorated with signs, streamers and flags.
The parade traveled over rural roads in Haddam Neck and parts of East Hampton and received an enthusiastic reception from spectators. Many participants wore white as the suffragettes did in their long battle.
A parade in Haddam Neck is not unusual as the Haddam Neck Fair officially opens every year with a tractor parade open to anyone who wants to participate.
The car parade was a fun event but more important and what should not be forgotten is the long fight by suffragettes for the right of women to vote.
