Haddam Land Trust Hosts Programs and Work Parties

Submitted by Haddam Land Trust

(October 3, 2023) — The Haddam Land Trust has one upcoming program and two upcoming work parties. We hope to see you at one or all.

On Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to Noon at  the Beaver Ledges Preserve, Bill Yule (Bolete Bill), teacher, environmental educator and naturalist will be our mushroom guide through the pathways, wetlands and forest of the Beaver Ledges Preserve.

Directions: Traveling south on Saybrook Road (Route 154) just past the Route 82 highway ramp, take a right onto Dudley Clark Road, then a right onto Old Chester Road.  Follow Old Chester Road to the overpass about 1.5 miles. Park beyond the overpass before the one- lane gravel road. We will meet just beyond the overpass.  The preserve entrance is a quarter of a mile from the parking area. For further information, contact Peter Smith at 860-267-9223

On Saturday, October 21, 2023 and Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 12:30 p.m., Haddam Land Trust will undertake trail clearing and improvements at the Swan Hill Preserve in Higganum. Volunteers are needed.

Please bring gloves, a water bottle and a snack. Plan for three hours, with the first thirty minutes devoted to orientation. Tools will be supplied, but feel free to bring your own long- or short-handled hand clippers, folding saws or lightweight hammers. This will be physically demanding work, but no experience is required.

There are no rain dates, but the event will be cancelled in the event of heavy rain. Meet at the lower parking lot at the former Haddam Elementary School. For more information, visit the Haddam Land Trust website at hltrust.org.
