Haddam Land Trust Has Opportunity to Conserve Three Parcels in Higganum

Submitted by Gail Reynolds.

(May 10, 2019) — The Haddam Land Trust Board of Directors is excited to announce that a unique opportunity has presented itself to conserve three connected parcels in Higganum, totaling 170± acres!

As you may be aware, the Regional District 17 Board of Education recently voted to donate Swan Hill, the 145-acre natural area behind Haddam Elementary School, directly to the Land Trust.  Additionally, discussions with the Town of Haddam have opened an opportunity for the Haddam Land Trust to acquire the 13-acre Higganum Cove property, site of the recent EPA cleanup, and the Town-owned 10-acre “Shopboard Rock” parcel abutting Swan Hill.

Each of these parcels is worthy in its own right; together they provide amazing possibilities for conservation.  The donation of these three connected parcels is expected to be completed over the summer, providing permanent protection to some of Haddam’s most treasured assets.

Please join us on Tuesday, the 21 of May, 2019 7:00 p.m., at the UConn Extension Center in Haddam at a public information forum to learn about the properties, to answer questions, to learn about volunteer opportunities, and to help shape the future of these magnificent additions. See notice on right.

Additionally, site walks are scheduled, see notice below.
