Haddam Historical Society Presents Program on Scovil Hoe

Submitted by Elizabeth Malloy, Executive Director, Haddam Historical Society

(March 12, 2024) — On Sunday, March 24, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Old Town Hall, 21 Field Park Drive, Haddam, the story of D. H. Scovil will continue with a talk by Higganum native Lindamae Peck and hosted by the Haddam Historical Society.

This will be the fourth in a series of talks by Lindamae as she meticulously researches the company’s ledgers, day books, journals and other important documents donated to the society in 2016. This talk will focus on the firm’s recovery after the Civil War, which had severely curtailed the sale of hoes to the southern states to under a few thousand, leading to the sale of more than 350,000 hoes in 1890.

The program is free for Haddam Historical Society members and $5 for non-members.
