Girls Lacrosse 2022: HKHS Defeats Rocky Hill 21-9

Submitted by Janice Calvi-Ruimerman.

With clouds in the sky, wind in the air, and rain coming down, the HKHS Girls Lacrosse team woke up at the crack of dawn with baked goods in tow, heading to Jack’s in Higganum, the Copper Skillet in Killingworth, and the Community Center in Higganum.  Despite a full week of games and some very late-night baking, these girls managed to sell out each location and raised enough money to fully subsidize their end of the year banquet.  Thanks to the generosity of our Haddam Killingworth Community and the hospitality of Jack’s and the Copper Skillet, the HKHS Girls Lacrosse Bake Sale was a huge success.

And, if that wasn’t enough, these tired, wet, cold girls went on to beat the Rocky Hill High School Terriers on their home turf.  On Saturday, May 7, 2022, the Cougars came to Rocky Hill with one thing in mind: to win, and win they did.  With a 21-9 final score, it was a “ruff” game for the Terriers who were no match for the Cougars line.

The defense quickly taught these Terriers how to sit and stay, leaving them open for Junior Sophie Ramino and Sophomore Peyton Tyler to steal the ball at the box, formidably protecting Senior Goalie Rhianna “Rhi” Phipps.  Yumi Imai mastered the ball on draw, with Georgia Cancroft and Samantha “Sammy” Ruimerman easily catching and moving the ball upfield. Defenders, Captain Kyla Mazzotta, Te’a Norman and Nicole Goosen, had the Terriers playing fetch, while the offensive team played catch and shoot with goals being scored by Captain Grace Cassidy (6), Yumi Imai (5), Ava Ramino (4), Seanna “SeaSea” Ruimerman (2), Emily Sorentino, Audrey Wrinn, Jaimey DiNapoli, and Brigitte Battistoni with (1) each.

Amazing Day! Way to be independent, and what a win! Keep moving and keep those sticks up!
