Eversource Foundation Announces Leadership Change

HARTFORD, Conn. and BOSTON, Mass. (January 15, 2020) – Eversource is pleased to announce Theresa Hopkins-Staten has been named as the new President of the Eversource Energy Foundation. In this role, Hopkins-Staten will oversee the energy company’s social responsibility programs to ensure their continued alignment with the company’s overall mission and philanthropic strategy.

Hopkins-Staten, who currently serves as Director of Connecticut Regulatory Affairs, is taking the helm following the retirement of Rod Powell, who stepped down as President of Corporate Citizenship on Dec. 31 following a career with Eversource and its legacy companies that spanned nearly 40 years.

Hopkins-Staten began her career at Eversource in the Legal Department as Senior Counsel and Assistant Corporate Secretary. Several years later, she became President of the Company’s Foundation and Director of Corporate Community Relations, developing programs to assist limited income customers, and strategically invested millions of dollars in Connecticut, Western Massachusetts and New Hampshire. She went on to serve as Director of Connecticut Regulatory Affairs, developing internal policy to ensure compliance with state regulatory agencies.
In addition to numerous awards and recognitions, she earned a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law and received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degree (PhD) from Goodwin College. She graduated from the University of Connecticut with a B.A. magna cum laude in Sociology and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society.
