Eversource Crews Responding to Emergency Calls after Fierce Rain and Wind Storm Hits Connecticut

Submitted by Mitch Gross, Eversource.

BERLIN, Conn. (Aug. 27, 2020) – Hundreds of Eversource line and tree crews are working urgently to respond to emergency calls and restore power after Thursday’s fierce wind storm that crippled some Connecticut communities. The company is working to help clear roads and make downed power lines safe in the hardest hit communities – including Branford where the company is deploying a mobile command unit. While adhering to strict COVID-19 pandemic safety protocols, crews will continue working around the clock until all customers affected by the storm have their power restored. As of 9 p.m., approximately 28,000 Eversource customers remain without power.

“Our crews were prepositioned throughout the state before the storm hit and are working to restore power in the communities affected by this storm while also responding to local emergency situations,” said Eversource Vice President of Electric Operations Mike Hayhurst. “In Branford, the damage is so severe our crews are facing traffic jams and impassable roads. We’re working alongside first responders there to help clear blocked roads and gain access to damage locations so crews can begin making necessary repairs and restore power.”
The energy company encourages customers to report any outage online at www.eversource.com, or by calling 800-286-2000. Customers who signed up for the company’s two-way texting feature can send a text to report an outage and receive outage updates as they happen.
The company also reminds customers to always stay clear of downed wires, report them immediately to 9-1-1 and to be cautious while continuing with their own storm clean up – be careful moving or cutting tree limbs and look for any wires that may be entangled in debris. Additionally, customers who are without power and plan to use a generator are reminded to be sure the generator is located well away from their home or business and that the transfer switch is working properly.
