(Sept. 4, 2019) — The towns of Haddam and Killingworth both have Emergency Fuel Banks to assist families and seniors in need of emergency fuel help: wood, oil, electric, or propane. It is a one-time grant to help them obtain their choice of one fuel source. Those in need in Haddam should schedule an appointment with Haddam Social Services, and bring with them the previous year’s tax return, proof of residency, last month’s pay stubs or proof of income. They follow the State of Connecticut Median Income guidelines. Killingworth residents can apply to the CRT Program by appointment through the town 860 663 1765 x217 or directly to CRT in Middletown 860 347 4465. Each application must be tailored to the applicant so it is necessary to pick up an Energy Assistance Checklist at the Library or Town Hall. More information can be found HERE.
The Haddam Emergency Fuel Bank is funded by donations. All donations can be sent to Haddam Social Services, 11 Jail Hill Road, Haddam, CT, with checks made payable to the Haddam Emergency Fuel Bank. If you are willing to donate wood, please contact Social Services so that donations can be matched up with a family or individual in need of help.
For those people with a serious medical condition or those on oxygen in danger of losing their electricity, contact Eversource to let them know of your medical condition. Eversource will need a doctor’s documentation to note their account and recognize their medical needs. Eversource also offers a matching program and the new start program. “These programs are designed to help those struggling,” said Jessica Condil, Haddam Social Services. If you need electrical assistance, contact CRT and schedule an appointment. For more information, see this link.
Any homebound seniors who need help completing applications can contact Haddam Social Services at 860-345-4621 or Killingworth Municipal Agent at 860-663-1765 x217 and they will assist them with their applications.
