Editor’s Note: The candidates for State House and State Senate were given the opportunity to send HK-Now.com and Haddam Killingworth News a 450-word response to the question: “What do you bring to the table as a candidate, and what issues do you plan to focus on as a state legislator?” The statement below is from Republican State Representative Chris Aniskovich, who is seeking re-election in the 35th Assembly District. The candidate’s reply is unchanged from the original as submitted. HK-Now.com and Haddam Killingworth News are not responsible for errors in grammar, usage, punctuation or spelling.
First and foremost, I bring an authentic commitment to the best interest of our towns and
residents to the work I do in Hartford. Over the past 20 years, I have served as President of Clinton Youth Football and a volunteer coach in the Harry Swaun Little League and Park & Rec Youth Basketball program. I am a current member and former Chair of the Clinton Town Council and before that, I served as an elected member of the Clinton Planning & Zoning Commission and Board of Assessment Appeals.
Second, I bring a non-partisan approach to public policy-making. For the last two years, I have worked for and supported responsible state spending and lower taxes. Allowing working people and families to keep more of what they earn will ease the burden of higher prices and local property taxes on residents and taxpayers. I have opposed legislation that would override local control of zoning and public education because the most accountable form of government is the one closest to the people. Finally, I have supported the efforts of local law enforcement officials to better maintain the safety of our communities. Economic growth, local control, and a strong public safety system are priorities we should never “play politics” with.
Lastly, I come to the table after two years as your state representative proudly carrying the
endorsement of the Connecticut Fraternal Order of Police, the CT Realtors, and the Independent Party of Connecticut. These endorsements confirm my strong belief that working hard and putting people before politics is what we need to assure our voices are heard at the Capitol.
If re-elected, I will continue to focus on supporting legislation to help grow our economy, create jobs, and protect local control of zoning and public education. In addition, I will work hard to assure that the next legislature addresses the rising cost of utilities in Connecticut. I have seen first-hand the impact of the Eversource rate increases on small businesses and people who are struggling to make ends meet. Finally, we need more investment in our local communities to keep the economy strong and our towns an affordable place to live.
Protecting families and the rights of parents will remain a priority for my next term. I will work to make our town and our state a safer and more vital place to live and work. When all is said and done, for me it’s STILL about people, not politics.
