My name is Joe Courtney, and I currently represent Connecticut’s 2nd District in Congress. I’ve worked in a bipartisan fashion since I was first elected, and have kept my focus squarely on the needs of eastern Connecticut. Today, I serve as Chairman of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee—which oversees all U.S. Navy shipbuilding—and I’m a senior member of the Education and Labor Committee.
From shipbuilding to clean energy to new infrastructure projects like upgrades to the Haddam Swing Bridge, dredging in the Patchogue River and more, there’s a ton of economic activity taking place in our region. I’ve worked to help grow our skilled workforce to take on all these opportunities, and I’m working with our towns to prepare for more. For example, we got the gears turning on the effort to relocate spent nuclear fuel from towns like Haddam and Waterford. That’s going to provide space to generate more low-cost nuclear power, and it’s another exciting area of growth in our region.
Eastern Connecticut is more than the district I represent—it’s my home. Our region deserves serious, constructive representation, and that’s what I’ve worked to deliver. Through lowered prescription drug costs, expanded benefits for veterans, support for hardworking families and students, and through all our bipartisan work, I want to continue making a difference by growing job opportunities and enhancing the quality of life for our neighbors.
We’ve marked a lot of great accomplishments for our region recently, and we need to keep the momentum going strong. That’s my top priority—working in a bipartisan fashion to provide our communities with more opportunities. Whether that’s through increased submarine construction, growing local skills-training programs, or by helping seniors and families lower everyday costs, I know the work it takes to get results, and that’s what motivates me every day.
