I currently serve as the State Representative for Clinton, Killingworth, and Westbrook. Additionally, I serve on the Clinton Town Council and as Vice President of Clinton’s Arts Council. I previously served as Clinton’s First Selectman.
This year we put Connecticut back on a path of progress — we passed the largest tax cut in Connecticut history, made meaningful investments in mental health for children and childcare for working families, expanded screenings for breast and cervical cancer, funded gun violence prevention, improved transportation infrastructure while ensuring the well-being of our environment for future generations. I hold our veterans close to my heart and I have worked on investments in veterans organizations and nutritional health services for seniors. We passed legislation to protect our first responders, expanding workers compensation coverage to include PTS, securing funding to support firefighters who are at a higher risk of cancer due to their work. We ensured a woman’s right to choose is upheld in Connecticut, protecting patients and healthcare providers.
There is more work to be done in supporting all members of our community. Next session I will work on legislation to protect our seniors from predatory housing environments, to provide at home care support necessary for our seniors to stay in their homes, and to expand the availability of adult daycares.
Easing the fiscal burdens facing our community will be a priority in the coming legislation session. I hope to accomplish this through further expansion of the gas tax holiday, increasing the duration and scope of sales tax holidays, and increasing the property tax credits available for seniors.
Environmental issues, both small and large, include protecting our horseshoe crabs from harvesting and developing coastal resiliency programs at both the state and regional level while focusing on long-term solutions.
