Election 2022/Bob Stefanowski (R) Candidate for Governor

Editor’s Note:  All candidates for Governor, Secretary of the State, Attorney General, U.S. Senate, 2nd Congressional District, State Senate and State House Districts for Haddam and Killingworth were invited to send a brief statement and a photo to HK-Now.com.  These are being posted online as they arrive.  They also will appear in Haddam Killingworth News over four Thursdays in October.

I grew up on Dixwell Avenue in New Haven, where my family lived in a three-family home. Eventually, my parents saved enough to move to North Haven. Growing up, I learned the value of a dollar and the rewards of hard work, seeing my parents make sacrifices to put my sisters and me through college.

I attended Fairfield University and, after graduation, started a job as an auditor at Price Waterhouse Cooper, working at the Gold Building in Hartford, where I met the love of my life, Amy. My professional experience spans the globe and includes positions as Chief Executive of some of the world’s largest companies, including General Electric and UBS.

I have been involved in community organizations throughout Connecticut for decades. In 2020, Amy and I launched “Masks for Heroes,” and this grassroots initiative provided 1.6+ million masks for hospitals, first responders and nursing homes in Connecticut.

Amy and I have been married for over 30 years and we are proud parents to three terrific daughters who are a daily reminder of what’s most important in life.

During my travels this campaign, I have had the honor to interact with people from across the state. I am constantly hearing about their struggles, whether it’s choosing between refilling their prescriptions or feeding their families, or deciding how much heating oil they can put into their tank. People cannot keep competing with the out-of-control costs to work and live in Connecticut.

I have a plan to fight inflation and reduce state taxes, called CT FIRST, which will put half of Connecticut’s $6 Billion surplus to work for you and your family. The projected savings will be over $2,000 per family per year and includes implementing a SALT property tax deduction on your state income tax, cutting the Sales Tax to 5.99%, eliminating the 1% Food/Meals Tax, canceling the Truck Tax, eliminating 200 low-revenue taxes and implementing an all-fuel tax holiday for 2023.

Additionally, people do not feel safe in their communities anywhere in Connecticut. I have developed a CT S.A.F.E. plan to return respect and authority to our law enforcement and enable them to do their job. This plan will support our police by reworking the Police Accountability Act, addressing the recruitment and retention crisis, and enforcing our laws to curb the rise in crime, especially juvenile acts.

As the next Governor of Connecticut, I will stand up for all residents to ensure that they have a safer, more affordable life here in the state we all know and love. Every single person in Connecticut deserves access to a good and productive life. I will lead us forward, getting bureaucracy and government out of the way so residents can finally recover from the tough times we have been experiencing over the past few years. Change is difficult, but necessary if we want to really improve this state. I am asking for your vote this November 8th because it is time for a change.
