(January 5, 2023)–Vehicle #1 was traveling in the left lane on Route 9 south in the area of the Exit 18 entrance ramp in the Town of Cromwell.
Vehicle #2 was traveling North in the Southbound lane, the wrong way, and struck Vehicle #1 head-on.
Vehicle #1 came to an uncontrolled final rest in the left shoulder, fully engulfed in flames.
Operator #1 was pronounced deceased on scene and has not yet been positively identified, and pending autopsy.
Vehicle #2 came to an uncontrolled final rest in the grass center median.
Operator #2 was pronounced deceased on scene and pending next of kin notification.
Vehicle #1 and Vehicle #2 were towed from the scene due to disabling damage. This case remains under investigation.
