Connecticut Water Accepting Applications for Grants to Local Fire Departments

Submitted by Daniel Meaney

(November 17, 2023) — Connecticut Water is once again supporting local fire departments and firefighters through a grant program that supports equipment purchases and training. Through the program, Connecticut Water will award up to $15,000 to uniformed volunteer or paid departments in communities served by Connecticut Water to help fund the purchase of slow-close hydrant valves, backflow preventers, isolation valves, water handling equipment or other firefighting tools and educational materials. The maximum grant awarded will be $1,500 per department.

“Connecticut Water values its partnership with firefighters and emergency responders and applauds their commitment to serve the community,” said Craig J. Patla, president and CEO of Connecticut Water. Patla added, “The Firefighter Support Grant Program supports the vital service they provide — protecting lives and property. We are pleased these grant funds will support the equipment and training needed to minimize the risk to their own safety and well-being while also protecting the public water systems that supply water to fire hydrants.”

Applications are due on March 1, 2024. For complete information and to download an application, visit ctwater.com/firefightergrantprogram. This is the fifth year of the program. More than $63,000 in grants have been awarded through the program.

Connecticut Water Company provides water service to more than 107,000 people in 60 Connecticut communities including Haddam, East Haddam and Killingworth.
