On the brisk Sunday afternoon of October 20, 2019, boys from the Haddam Killingworth High School soccer team gathered on the soccer field with 1BigCircle athletes for fun, fitness, and soccer! 1Big Circle is a social wellness club that offers free friendship building activities for young adults with disabilities. The high school boys ran the athletes through soccer drills, shots on goal, and finished with a closely fought soccer game.

The advisor for 1BigCircle, Pearl Elliott, noted that the athletes “really enjoy the challenge and respect they are given when they are taught by boys who are knowledgeable about the sport. Peer to peer learning doesn’t have to end after high school. This is a great example of inclusion. The HK soccer players are true role models of something positive.”

At the end of the event, Colby Whitehead, co-captain of the HK team, summed it up best by saying, “It was an eye-opening experience and I enjoyed teaching others how to play the game I love.”
