Boys Tennis 2022: HKHS’s White Advances to Semis in Shoreline Conference Tournament; Leiberman Makes Quarter Finals

(May 23, 2022)—Eddie White, of Haddam Killingworth High School, advanced to the semi-finals in the 1-2 singles bracket of the 2022 Shoreline Conference Tournament with a first round defeat of V. Fuda of Old Saybrook by the score of 6-0, 6-0 and a win in the quarterfinals over C. Hinckley of Lyme-Old Lyme in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.  He next faces Nik Wyszkowski of Valley Regional in a match scheduled for Tuesday afternoon on the Morgan courts.

The Cougars’ Bryce Leiberman defeated T. Dahl of Valley Regional in the opening round of the 1-2 singles bracket 6-1, 6-2.  In his quarterfinal match, Bryce faced the overall top seed in the 1-2 bracket, Joe Morse of Morgan, and lost 2-6, 0-6.

H-K Senior Co-Captain Joe Mercier lost in the opening round of the 3-4 singles draw to M. Lopez of Morgan by the scores of 2-6, 2-6. “This is Joe’s last match in a Cougars uniform and we are thankful for the three years he participated in our program,” said Coach Pakus. “We will miss his quiet leadership.”

In the doubles draw, H-K’s #1 Doubles team of Joe Wessinger and Gus Luzietti lost their opening match to the #3 tournament seed of Matesky and Garrity of Valley Regional by the scores of 1-6, 4-6.
