(March 21, 2023) — We have never had any tradition of a Holy Saturday event in the past at either Higganum Congregational Church or at the First Congregational Church of Haddam. This year, our newly combined church is trying something new.
In addition to our usual Maundy Thursday Service, our newly united church is inviting the community to join us for a time of musically supported contemplation. Composer and organist Chris Message will be offering some of his original piano compositions, free to the public (or with a good will donation to benefit our music programs). Message’s music is composed to inspire personal reflection. These works, collectively entitled, “Astray before Awakening,” bring us into the feeling of passing through troubled times and reaching higher ground. He will punctuate his original piano compositions by giving us a rendition of “O Fairest Jesu” on our historic Austin Organ.
We welcome the community to come to listen, contemplate Holy Saturday, or simply enjoy this original concert and join us for refreshments afterward on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. at the United Congregational Church of Haddam and Higganum, in our North/Higganum Sanctuary located at 23 Parsonage Road, Higganum.
