In Gallery: Silk Painting: Beyond the Borders. Learn the time-honored expressive process of painting on silk using the Serti method.  Serti – French for “fence” or “enclosing” – is the traditional French approach to controlling the flow of water-based dye on silk. Explore wet-on-wet and silk salt techniques to add color, texture, and excitement to your painting which you can apply to other silk pieces such as scarves and apparel. Instructor will supply simple design references, or you are welcome to bring your own ideas. End with a finished fine art piece. Thursdays: May 26; June 2, 9, 16. 1:00-3:00 p.m. $130 with $25 material fee paid to instructor.

In Gallery: Creating Frameable Art with Sea Glass. Create a one-of-a-kind sea glass artwork using glass from the Connecticut Shore.  Be inspired with many ideas whether making a beach-themed picture, family picture, poem, Scripture verse or another unique idea!  The natural world can be captured including fish, frogs, seahorses, dogs, cats, flowers, butterflies and more. Your sparkling glass creation will then be framed into a work of art! Children 12 and older are welcome. Sunday, June 5. 1:00-4:00 p.m. $45 with $15 material fee paid to instructor.

In Gallery: How to Paint a Butterfly with a Flower. Learn to paint in watercolor a butterfly on a flower with Bivenne Harvey Staiger while using its design elements to tie it into its natural habitat. Different paint applications, such as dry-on-wet and wet-on-dry and achieving saturated color and rich darks will be covered. Instructor demonstrates all painting stages. Ability to create contour drawing from a motif provided by the instructor is helpful; student may also use their own reference if preferred. Material list available. Sunday, June 12. 12:30-4:30 p.m. $75.
