“Ag Day” On the Way at Brainerd Memorial Library in Haddam

Submitted by Robbie Marshall

(May 16, 2023) — Brainerd Memorial Library’s Fifth Annual “Agriculture Day” on Saturday, June 3, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. will offer something for everyone.  Come out and spend some time with us.

Our feature event this year at Ag Day is a puppet show by John McDonough of “Pumpernickel Puppets.”  They are bright, colorful, full-size creations that captivate children and families.

This year we are also hatching chicks, and we invite everyone to visit the baby chick table.  Once there, children can win a prize if their chick-naming card is drawn.

Also new this year is a Stuffed Animal Vet.  Bring your stuffed animal to “Dr. Jenny” for a wellness check-up and repairs.

To accompany this fun community event there will be a local musical group playing on the front steps, ice cream, free beverages and popcorn.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) will once again have their Nature Center Mobile Unit on site for visits that provide an interesting educational experience.

The UConn Extension Center returns to offer advice on plants and gardening and distribute seed packets.

A beautiful seasonal wreath created by our talented wreath maker will be raffled.

There will be many farm animals and local agricultural, farm, and nature related displays.

Children are welcome to make crafts to take home, like our popular fairy gardens!

Visit the Friends area where they are holding their special plant, book, and baked goods sales to purchase: native plants, tasty treats, and books for every age at incredible bargains.

Lawn games like croquet will be available for you to challenge your family and friends.

We welcome sponsors to help defray the costs of this singular community event. You’re invited to sponsor the program or provide: food services, crafts, displays, plants, livestock, farm equipment, program supplies, etc. If you are interested please call the library at 860-345-2204 and ask for Marissa or Robbie. Or email us at library@brainerdlibrary.org.
