(November 14, 2025) — Each year the Haddam Historical Society bestows an award to a person or persons who has performed an outstanding service to the organization and contributed to furthering the mission of the Society, which is to preserve, collect, interpret and promote the history and heritage of Haddam for present and future generations.
This year we honor someone who has deep roots in Haddam and whose family goes back generations.
Lindamae Peck is a native of Higganum and was raised in a family with a deep respect for local history. She is related to the Burr, Neff, Church, Bailey, Skinner and Brainerd families to name a few. She has been involved in the Historical Society in many different facets since returning to Higganum upon retirement. She has served on the Board of Directors and has participated and helped at many events.

Lindamae shared her beloved ponies with our youth membership and allowed us to metal detect on her farm. One of her greatest contributions has been working with the Scovil archives, which we acquired from the American Precision Museum in 2016. She has meticulously examined a number of the volumes and produced four fascinating talks on certain periods of the firm. We have at least one more to go! Her Scovil knowledge assisted in the National Register listing of the Scovil sites along Candlewood Hill Road and in a video done by Valley Shore Community Television.
She has recently spearheaded a project protecting and preserving artifacts and archives from the Higganum Grange and has a true passion for her community and its heritage. Lindamae is active in the Grange, United Congregational Church of Haddam and Higganum and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is currently compiling a through list of those who served from Haddam in the American Revolution and we hope to highlight this research in 2026 as we celebrate America’s 250th.
Over the years Lindamae has also donated many important archives and objects to the society, including documents from various organizations such as the Women’s Christian Temperance Union of Higganum.
We are honored and pleased to award Lindamae Peck the 2025 Founders Day Award.
