(October 1, 2025) — Happy Fall Y’all! Hard to believe we are heading into the last few months of 2025. There are lots of great things coming up at the Haddam Senior Center in the month of October, so please check out the calendar at the link below:

OCT 2025 Event Calendar

Here are some of the highlights:

Friday, October 3rd @ 12:30pm, the Haddam Senior Center is proud to welcome CRIS (Connecticut Radio Information System) for a presentation on their resources and offerings!

See the flyer above for more information, but CRIS is a wonderful resource for the visually impaired of all ages.

Thursday, October 9th @ 12:30pm, we’ve got a doubleheader! Stacey will be here to spruce up your nails with her mini spa manicures ($20 Fee and Sign-up required) and we will have our monthly GameDay Board Game session also at 12:30pm.

Friday, October 10th @ 12:30pm the Haddam Senior Center welcomes the Democratic and Republican Candidates for Board of Finance so they can hear from Haddam seniors what’s important for them to focus on once elected.

Monday, October 13th – The Haddam Senior Center will be closed for Columbus/Indigenous People’s Day.

Friday, October 17th @ 12:30pm we welcome Deb Carson from Liberty Bank in Higganum for an important discussion on fraud.

Monday, October 20th from 11am – 1pm, CRAHD has partnered with Stop & Shop Pharmacies to provide Vaccination Clinics to Haddam and the surrounding area over the next several weeks.

See the flyer above for more information, (including a QR code to print consent forms in advance). Available vaccinations include, COVID, Flu, RSV, Pneumonia and Shingles.

Thursday, October 23rd  @12pm, will be our monthly Pizza and a Movie featuring the comedy movie “Thelma.” 93 year old Thelma is on a mission after being conned by a scammer pretending to be her grandson. She teams up with an old friend and sets out on a wild adventure to take back what’s hers!

Friday, October 24th @ 1pm Cathy from Cathy & Company Botanicals will be here for a Halloween-themed floral workshop. Sign-up required along with a $20 fee for Haddam seniors/$25 fee for non-resident seniors.

Monday, October 27th @ 12:30pm we will celebrate all our friends who are celebrating a birthday in October! Come celebrate with us! Also on Monday, October 27th @ 1pm, we will have our 3rd installment of our Mystery Book Club! We have selected “The Bone Collector” by Jeffrey Deaver as our October book. We are partnering with the Brainerd Memorial Library to procure books, or if you choose to purchase a copy, that is ok too.

Thursday, October 30th @ 1:00pm AARP will be here to present the “AARP Smart Driver” course.

This class will help refresh your driving skills and knowledge of the rules of the road. It may also save you money on your car insurance! This class will take place from 1pm – 5pm, is $20 for AARP members, $25 for nonmembers. Please bring your AARP card and cash or check to cover the cost of the class.

Friday, October 31st Halloween! Join us for lunch at 12pm and stay for our Halloween Ice Cream Social which will start at approximately 12:30pm! We will have a prize for Best Costume, and we will dance and groove to live music performed by Brian May! This should be a really fun way to close out October!

As always, in addition to all that is listed here, we’ve got Mobility every Monday and Thursday @ 11:15am; Mahjong every Monday and Thursday @ 10am; Cards every Tuesday @ 10:30 and 12:30pm; Bingo the 1st and 3rd Thursday @ 12:45pm; and T’ai Chi every Friday @ 10am!

We’ve also got hot lunch every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (suggested donation $3 per meal except where noted) and Friday (suggested donation $5). You must sign up for lunch by 1pm the previous business day in order to have a lunch reserved for you. I cannot guarantee you a meal if you sign up late.

Other things coming your way in the next few days are two community programs that we will be participating in this month. One is a toiletries drive for Social Services, and two is a fundraiser for the Haddam Historical Society. Stay tuned for more on these!
