(September 26, 2026) — An incredible show of effort and determination was on display by the Haddam-Killingworth High School Boys Soccer team on September 25, 2026. Undefeated East Hampton started the game with a strong wind at their backs, and got on the scoreboard first in the 9th minute off a free kick dropped right in front of the HKHS goal.
Although not playing their best, the Cougars managed to hold off many East Hampton scoring threats for the remainder of the half. In the second half, with the wind now at their backs, HKHS made numerous attacks on the opposition, coming up just short for most of the half.
Fortunately, the Cougars defensive backfield of Carter Commerford, Alex Weise, Finn Macauley, and Jake Favalora successfully kept East Hampton scoreless for the entire half. Finally, with about 12 minutes left, Tristin Edwards dropped a beautiful corner kick at the near post, about a foot out, which apparently deflected off the back of a defender, giving HKHS a goal to tie the game. With renewed enthusiasm, the Cougars relentlessly pressured their opponent. With time running out, Tristin made a great pass to Nolan (speed plus lightning) Sheppard, who maneuvered past the goalie to put the Cougars on top in the 76th minute. But HK was not done yet, as two minutes later Tristin received a great through-pass from Luca Piacenti and deftly put its third goal past the keeper. The team’s next game is against Manchester High School at The Forge in Middletown on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at 11:30 a.m..
