Cross Country 2026: HKHS Teams Place Well in First Meet of the Season

(September 13, 2026) — On September 12, 2026, the Haddam Killingworth High School Boys and Girls cross country teams had their first meet of the 2026 season as they traveled to Attleboro, Massachusetts to compete in the Highland Park Invitational against more than twenty teams from Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The Girls team raced well on the 3.1 mile course to place second as a team, scoring 50 points. The Girls were led by Senior co-captain Charlotte Behnke, who crossed the line in a time of 19:39 to place second in the race. She was followed by teammates Alyssa Behnke in fourth (20:12), Senior co-captain Emi Schweitzer, Ninth (20:40) and Sophomore Annie Webster, Twelfth (21:12). Rounding out the team scoring was Junior Celia Huebner 34th (27:10).

The Boys team also raced well to place third overall as a team, scoring 99 points. Senior co-captain Evan Berardino led the team as he placed fifth in the race in a time of 16:40 for the 5,000 meter course. Closely following him across the line was Senior co-captain Wyatt Voegtli 8th (16:52). Placing 25th in a time of 17:50 was junior Trey Downing, senior Paul Birkmeyer was 33rd (18:30) and junior Fischer Norton placed 41st (18:58).

The HKHS cross country team will next be in action on September 19, 2026 as they travel to Somers, New York to compete in the Somers Big Red Invitational.
