(August 15, 2026) — Connecticut’s 27th Sales Tax-Free Week takes place from Sunday, August 16, 2026 to Saturday, August 22, 2026 exempting sales tax on items of clothing and footwear costing less than $300 per item. This year’s Sales Tax-Free Week has been expanded from previous years, with the upper limit of clothing costs increased from $100 and additional items added to the list of accepted products sold without sales tax. Backpacks and some cleated shoes, like running shoes, are now tax-free during the week. Sales Tax-Free Week also applies to online sales taking place during the week itself.
Exceptions to Tax-Free Week include special clothing and footwear primarily designed for athletic activity or protective use not worn outside of those periods, as well as jewelry, handbags, luggage, umbrellas and other items carried on the body but not worn as clothing.
