Submitted by Rachel Schemmerling

(July 2, 2026) — The Congregational Church in Killingworth invites the community to a special 250th Celebration Summer Community Picnic and Fundraiser on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the church, located at 273 Route 81 in Killingworth. (Rain date is Sunday, July 26, 2026)

Held in recognition of America’s 250th Anniversary, this patriotic community gathering celebrates our nation’s history while bringing neighbors together for an evening of great food, live music, fellowship, and fun. The event also serves as a fundraiser to support the church’s ongoing ministries and outreach within the community.

Guests will enjoy live bluegrass and Americana music by Matthew Holmes on bass and guitar, along with a summer barbecue prepared by Café Laurel, featuring BBQ, baked beans, coleslaw, cornbread, iced tea, lemonade, and homemade pies for dessert.

“This is an opportunity for our community to come together to celebrate the values that have shaped our nation—faith, service, community, and hope for the future,” said church leaders. “Whether you’ve attended our church for years or have never visited before, everyone is welcome to join us for a memorable summer evening.” The celebration will also include lawn games, family-friendly activities, and plenty of opportunities to connect with friends, neighbors, and new faces in a relaxed outdoor setting.

Reservations are encouraged. Tickets may be purchased online at www.killingworthchurch.org or by contacting the church office at 860-653-1789 or office@killingworthchurch.org.

The Congregational Church in Killingworth has long been a gathering place for worship, service, and community life.
