Killingworth Reads Declaration of Independence July 8th

Submitted by Jan O’Sullivan

(June 23, 2026) — On Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at 5:45 p.m., a public reading of the Declaration of Independence will be held in front of Killingworth Town Hall as part of the initiative by the Hawai’i America250 Commission to have simultaneous readings across all U.S. states and territories at 6:00 p.m. EDT.

The date of July 8 was chosen because that is the first date that the Declaration was read publicly in 1776. Several local residents, some with family ties to the Revolutionary era, will do the reading. Please join the Killingworth Historical Society as our town commemorates this historic anniversary.
