Haddam Reads Declaration of Independence July 8th

Submitted by Ryan Thompson

(June 23, 2026) — On July 8, 2026 starting at 5:00 p.m. on the Higganum Town Green, the Haddam Committee to
Celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary will join towns and cities across the country in a reading of the Declaration of Independence.

Veterans from our community will participate in a public reading of the Declaration, with each reader appearing in uniform as a tribute to the service and sacrifice that have helped preserve our nation’s freedoms. The event also will feature a performance of the National Anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance, and patriotic displays throughout the Green, including 250 American flags
placed in honor of this historic occasion.

Community volunteers will appear dressed as Betsy Ross and Uncle Sam to help bring the spirit of the era to life. The Veterans
Museum also will be open to visitors during the event, offering an opportunity to explore local military history and heritage. We invite everyone to attend this meaningful celebration of American history, patriotism and community spirit.
