Obituary: Robert (Bob) Duval

By Biega Funeral Home

(May 27, 2026) — Robert “Bob” Duval of Haddam passed away on May 14, 2026, at Hartford Hospital. Bob was born in Leominster, Massachusetts to the late Leonard and Laurette (Lyonnais) Duval.

Bob was a tireless volunteer and community leader whose commitment to local youth athletics and municipal service spanned decades. Considered the “father” of Haddam Little League, he first became involved in 1979 as league secretary and as a manager and coach. Since 1981 he served as Boys Player Agent, responsible for players’ well-being and for establishing game and practice schedules. He chaired Haddam’s Ball Field Study Committee, leading the effort to create the Great Hill Athletic Complex on Jail Hill Road.

Beyond Haddam Little League, Bob served Connecticut Little League District #9 in administrative roles for many years as Assistant District Administrator and District Administrator. He assisted 17 member leagues across Middlesex and New Haven Counties.

His civic service included more than 30 years on the Haddam Park and Recreation Commission, including many years as Chairman and Commissioner, Chairman of HK Recreation Authority, member of the Haddam Planning and Zoning Commission, and he served on the Haddam Board of Selectmen. Besides what he did for his community his other life was Raymond Engineering. Bob spent more than thirty-six years dedicating himself to Raymond Engineering, making it his home away from home, with bonds he made through both the town and his work.

He was predeceased by his wife, Claire, and his parents, Leonard and Laurette (Lyonnais) Duval. He is survived by his sons Shaun Duval and his wife Tammy of Clinton; Matthew Duval and his wife Heather of Meriden; and Jason Duval of Haddam. He also leaves a brother, Michael Duval; a sister, Marcia Eager; and two grandchildren, Matthew Duval Jr. and Alexandra Duval.

Memorial donations can be made in Bob’s name to St. Peter’s Church in Higganum.
