(May 15, 2026) — What a difference a month makes! The transformation that has happened to the grocery store in Higganum Center is just remarkable. The store re-opened on May 13, 2026, and the results are noteworthy.

The deli is back and is fully stocked with many appealing options; in fact, store owner Adam Abdullah (photo above) says breakfast, lunch and dinner options are immediately available for meals to go. In addition, catering is an option to consider. The store prides itself on customer service and is always open to suggestions.

Here are a few observations that are immediately apparent.

1. The aisles are much wider. 2. No more rooting around on the floor under the counters for fruit and vegetables. Everything is conveniently waist high and all the produce looks fresh and new. 3. The staff is very friendly. 4. Everything is bright and orderly and clean. 5. There is an inviting, well-stocked bakery section.

The store is still hiring both part-time and full time staff. Call 860-345-4500 for further information. Also, Adam tells me that Hometown Market will be open seven days a week, 365 days a year from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. It is an impressive place that residents should check out.

I stopped into the market yesterday and was impressed by how clean and spacious it was, but especially by the fact that there was no offensive odor in the air.
