Thursday, April 2, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. Virtual Author Talk: The History of U.S. Women Astronauts, with Smithsonian Curator Emerita Valerie Neal
Join us for an exhilarating journey through the history of U.S. women astronauts with Valerie Neal, emerita curator from the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum and an expert on human spaceflight. Thursday, April 2, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. Sustainable Lawns with Tom Christopher
Join us at Essex Library for a lecture on ecological lawns with garden designer and writer Tom Christopher. Christopher will discuss how certain grasses and maintenance practices can help produce a lawn that contributes positively to biological diversity, resource sustainability and carbon sequestration. Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. Literature Seminar Series: Raymond Carver, with Tom Kelly
This spring, take a deep dive into two of American writer Raymond Carver’s short stories with Tom Kelly as he leads a two-part literature seminar series at Essex Library. On April 9, 2026 Kelly will provide background on Carver and then analyze and lead a discussion on Carver’s elliptical narrative approach in “Neighbors” (1971).
