Snowstorm Follow-Up from Haddam First Selectman

By Sean Donlan, Haddam First Selectman
(January 28, 2026) — Firstly, thank you to the entire Public Works Department for the tremendous job done with the past two snow storms.  We are aware that our roads are not completely free of snow and ice and are working on clearing them within a reasonable time.
Secondly, please note that we are experiencing a multi-state salt shortage.  Although Haddam has ordered a sufficient amount of salt to get through the previous storms, and the one predicted for this weekend, we have not received the deliveries.  We are working with the state and our buying consortium and, with their help, Kevin McManus and Haddam’s Emergency Management team are hoping to get a delivery this week. However, we have received no guarantees.   Our Public Works Department is prioritizing the use of the salt we have by mixing it with sand and focusing on areas known to accumulate snow and ice.
Thirdly, please drive safely, especially with these low temperatures, and know that although a road might look clear, it could be slippery as black ice is accumulating in various areas. In addition, sand on the road is mainly there to help with the gripping of tires and not for melting snow. Please drive slowly even if you see sand on the roads.

  1. We appreciate the snow removal, I don’t however appreciate the town plows pushing mountains of snow onto my yard, damaging the lawn, stones, and trees. They see the trees and stones, and just keep pushing the snow further and further.
