Boys Basketball 2026: HKHS Defeats Nathan Hale-Ray in Double Overtime, 63-52

(January 15, 2026) — The Haddam-Killingworth High School Boys basketball team defeated cross-river rival Nathan Hale-Ray of East Haddam in double overtime by the score of 63-52. While the Cougars were up by 20 points, the Bellringers would not be deterred, outscoring the Cougars in the third and fourth quarters 28-14.

HKHS rallied in overtime, led by Senior co-captain Declan Moriarty, who put the team on his shoulders and carried them to victory. Sound defense by Juniors Noah Marica and Kody Lehet also helped fuel the double overtime victory. Moriarty led the team with 15 points while Junior Mason Eighmy had another exceptional night with 12 points including 2 three pointers. Junior Brody Ferguson also continued his fluid play, pitching in 13 points and 2 three pointers. Senior co-captain Jay Evans continued to work hard on offense and defense chipping in 10 points including 2 three pointers. Rounding out the scoring, Marica with 6, Lehet with 2 and senior Pierce Goodison with 3. It was a long evening but one in which the Cougars could rest well as they now sit at 6-1 on the season. HKHS plays Wheeler at home on Thursday, January 14, 2026, JV at 3:30 p.m., Varsity at 5:00 p.m. See you on the court.
