(January 7, 2026) — Frequent contributor Philip Devlin submitted the following story and photos:
“Yesterday, while I was eating lunch, out of the corner of my eye I detected a sudden movement. I stood up and looked out the window. A large, red-tailed hawk had just swooped in and captured a gray squirrel, which was attempting to raid our bird feeders.
At first the hawk swarmed in and perched on top of the squirrel with its wings spread wide…

Then it retracted its wings and stayed on top of its prey to suffocate it in the snow…

After about 4-5 minutes, the hawk took off, clutching its next meal with its talons.”
