Haddam Business Spotlight: Izzy Rose Design

Submitted by Haddam Economic Development Commission

(December 12, 2025) — Nestled in Higganum Center on Saybrook Road, Izzy Rose Design is a hidden gem that you might just miss if you drive too quickly along Route 154. Shoppers are greeted by seasonal scents and a selection of Connecticut-made goods, including candles, ornaments, jewelry and cards. The store also features holiday knitwear, festive figurines, and seasonal items for spring and summer, all reflecting its creative and community-focused atmosphere in the Connecticut River Valley.

Owned and operated by Colleen DePaolo, Izzy Rose Design, named after her daughter, opened its doors in 2023 and has since become a beloved destination for residents and visitors alike. DePaolo, a life-long resident, brings her passion for handcrafted goods and thoughtful curation to every corner of the store. “I wanted to create a place where people could feel at home and comfortable,” DePaolo explains.  “The special moments are the ones where I can reconnect with old friends and acquaintances from town that I haven’t seen in years”.

What sets Izzy Rose Design apart, however, is its commitment to building community. The shop regularly hosts Open House events—such as their upcoming “Mingle & Jingle” happening from December 19th-21st—which brings people together to connect and shop around while enjoying light refreshments. DePaolo also donates gift cards and unique items to charity drives and collaborates with other local businesses to support causes close to home, such as the upcoming HKTV Holiday Show Telethon.

As the holiday season approaches, Izzy Rose Design is a haven for those seeking meaningful, one-of-a-kind gifts. It’s more than a retail space—it’s a celebration of small-town warmth, artistry, and the enduring joy of giving.

Izzy Rose Design is located at 323 Saybrook Road in Higganum and is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.. More information can be found at “Izzy Rose Design” on Facebook and Instagram.
