Girls Cross Country/Boys Cross Country 2025: HKHS Teams Win Shorelines

(October 20, 2025) — The Haddam-Killingworth High School Girls cross country team won its fifth consecutive Shoreline Conference Championship and their ninth title in the past eleven years, as they scored 31 points to easily outdistance runner-up Cromwell, which placed second with 70 points, as well as the rest of the Shoreline Conference schools.
The Girls team was led by Sophomore Charlotte Behnke, who placed second in the race in a time of 18:50 over the 3.1 mile course to earn First Team All Shoreline for the third year in a row.  Senior Julia Downing was close behind, placing third overall in the race with a time of 19:10.  Next was Grace Mitchell in 5th (19:22) to earn First Team All Conference for the 4th consecutive year.  Next for HKHS was Senior Delaney Aronson 10th (20:21) who also earned First Team All Conference accolades by finishing in the top ten in the race.  She was followed by Junior Emi Schweitzer 11th (20:26) and Senior Amelia Riggs 15th (20:36), both of whom earned Second Team All Conference honors.
The 2025 Shoreline Championship HKHS Boys team

The HKHS Boys Varsity team won the Shoreline team title, which was their tenth championship in the past twelve years, as they scored 35 points for the victory.  The Boys ran an incredible team race as their top five runners were separated by only 25 seconds.  The first to cross the line for the Cougars was Junior Evan Berardino, who placed third in the race with a time of 16:24 for the 5,000 meter course.  Following closely behind were a trio of HKHS Seniors, led by Alex Fredericksen 5th (16:36), Cash Smigel 8th (16:43) and Anthony Fredericksen 9th (16:47) followed by Junior Wyatt Voegtli 10th (16:49) to round out the team scoring, with all earning First Team All Conference honors.  Next to finish for H-K was Senior Dan McCourt 11th (17:18) and Sophomore Trey Downing 13th (17:21)- both of whom earned Second Team All Shoreline honors.

In the JV race, the HKHS Boys team dominated the team competition as they scored a mere 16 points to win the team title.  They were led by a 1-2-3 finish of Sophomore Fischer Norton (17:07), Junior Paul Birkmeyer 2nd (17:36) and Senior AJ Livingston 3rd (18:40).
The lone H-K girl in JV race also had her best race of the season as sophomore Celia Huebner placed 2nd in the race in a PR time of 25:07.
The Cross Country team will next be in action on October 25, 2025 to compete in the Class SS State Championship Meet at Wickham Park in Manchester.
