Summary of Haddam Board of Selectmen Meeting, October 2025

(October 18, 2025) — The regular meeting of Haddam’s Board of Selectmen on October 14, 2025, was called to order by First Selectman Robert McGarry at 6:35 p.m. at the Old Town Hall, 30 Field Park Drive, Haddam. Selectmen Kate Anderson and Peter Baird were present.

From the First Selectman:

An information session on the Town Garage site search is scheduled for October 22, 2025. A flyer was included in Haddam-Killingworth Newspaper on October 16.

Strategic Environmental Services, Inc., won the contract for Phase 3 ground remediation of Scovil Hoe with a bid of $2,395,262.10. With the Department of Economic Community Development topper grant of $900,000, only $1.9 million is available. In order to make up the shortfall, existing vegetation will serve as the buffer along the brook instead of a wooden fence. Additionally, Connecticut Wedding Group agreed to pay for paving in exchange for a tax abatement. The renovated site is expected to open next summer.

Nunes Connecticut, Inc., won the Haddam Center sidewalk contract with work expected to start this fall. Furthermore, Connecticut Department of Transportation approved the transfer of $400K from that project to the Higganum Center sidewalk, which will cover the pedestrian bridge.

The Merchant House well was abandoned on October 8, 2025.

Homeland Towers received a building permit for the cellular tower in Tylerville and has begun tree removal.

Planning and Zoning Commission approved the construction of twenty-seven new apartments at 1572 Saybrook Road in Tylerville.

Fall Fest/Trunk-or-Treat will be held on October 18, 2025, at the high school. Haddam-Killingworth Youth and Family Services is also hosting the Family Pumpkin Run on October 26.

Selectman Anderson announced that Yuletide Marketplace 2025, formerly called the Holiday Pop-up Market, will kick off in November at St. James Parish Hall on Route 81.

Selectman Baird made a motion to approve the October 2025 tax refunds in the amount of $7,632.47. The motion carried.

Selectman Anderson made a motion to send a resolution regarding abandoned cemeteries, and Selectman Baird made a motion to send an ordinance concerning citations and procedures for violations of Town Regulations to the Town Meeting on October 21, 2025. Both motions carried.

Business Interruption Grants were approved for Oh Fudge & More and Subway/JK Bridge Group in the amount of $20,000 each.

Selectman Baird made a motion to appoint Scott Brookes and Beatrice Batzner as temporary Sextants to the Haddam Center Cemetery. The motion carried.

Selectman Anderson made a motion to schedule a Town Meeting on November 12, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. at the Haddam Firehouse.

There will be a Special Board of Selectmen’s Meeting on October 27, 2025, at noon via Zoom.

The next regular Board of Selectmen meeting is scheduled for November 10, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., at Old Town Hall, 21 Field Park Drive in Haddam.

The meeting adjourned at 7:03 p.m.
