Election 2025: Killingworth Board of Finance Candidate Annie Stirna

Editor’s Note: HK-Now.com and Haddam Killingworth News asked candidates for the Board of Finance in Haddam and Killingworth provide brief biographies as a way of introducing themselves to voters. The statement below is from Killingworth Board of Finance member Annie Stirna, who is running for re-election. The candidate’s reply is unchanged from the original as submitted. HK-Now.com and Haddam Killingworth News are not responsible for errors in grammar, usage, punctuation or spelling.

I am Annie Stirna and I am running for a third term on the Board of Finance. I am currently the Board Chair.

I am extremely proud of my work on the Board of Finance over the last eight years.  The mil rate remained stable and the general fund continued to grow, even as we were challenged with a worldwide health crisis.

When rising costs of education and aging school buildings necessitated an increase for the current budget year, I was proud to lead our committee to unanimous votes on all budget adjustments and on an increase to the mil rate. A truly bipartisan effort to stabilize our financial position without sacrificing the crucial needs of the town and agencies.

I am a member of the Killingworth Foundation, and served on the Alternative Housing Committee, the Economic Recovery Committee, and the Public Works Director Hiring Committee.

I have lived in town for over 25 years and am a proud mom to two sons and a doting nana to a 10-year-old grandson in Rhode Island, and 8-year-old twins who live right here in town.

I continue to be fiscally conservative and will diligently carry out my responsibilities if you honor me with your support on November 4.
