Editor’s Note: HK-Now.com and Haddam Killingworth News asked the candidates for Board of Selectmen in Haddam and Killingworth to submit brief biographies as a way of introducing themselves to voters. Below is the response from Killingworth Selectman Joel D’Angelo, who is running for re-election. The candidate’s reply is unchanged from the original as submitted. My name is Joel D’Angelo, and I am seeking re-election as a Selectman for the Town of Killingworth. For the past 18 years, my wife, Lisa, our daughter, Grace, and I have been proud to call this community our home.

I first served on the Inland Wetlands and Watercourse Commission before being elected to the RSD17 Board of Education, where I spent twelve years, including terms as Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary. Since 2023, I have served on the Board of Selectmen. These experiences have deepened my understanding of how collaborative, transparent leadership can guide our town through important decisions.

As Selectman, my priorities include maintaining safe, fiscally responsible roads and facilities that protect property values and support everyday life. I am also committed to working closely with the Board of Education to ensure our schools remain strong. By planning responsibly and investing in needed capital resources, we support students and families while also strengthening the entire community. Excellent schools and sound infrastructure benefit all residents.

Most importantly, I believe in preserving Killingworth’s rural quality of life while preparing thoughtfully for the future. I will continue to be accessible, responsive, and respectful in representing the people of our town.
