By Editorial Staff

(September 30, 2025) — According to Biega Funeral Home, Danny M. Richmond, 76, of Higganum, husband of the late Martha Richmond, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Middlesex Hospital.

He was born in Beckley, West Virginia, son of the late Josephine and Ira Richmond. Danny was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the U.S. Navy. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with the Connecticut State Police, working for Whiting Forensic Institute and Norwich State Hospital.

Upon retirement from the State of Connecticut, Danny went on to work for Russell Library as director of Security and Maintenance. He loved his work for the community and forged special, long-lasting friendships with the young patrons of the library. Danny is survived by his daughter Amy Richmond of Haddam, son Michael Richmond of Higganum, grandson Caleb Prchal, sister Vicky and her husband Marv Houghton, daughter-in-law Susan Richmond and granddaughter Aubree Richmond, and granddaughter Morgan Richmond, and his loving companion Mary Anne Prchal of Killingworth.

He was predeceased by his parents, wife Martha, son Kevin, and son-in-
law Robb Prchal. To know Danny was to love him. His kind eyes and genuine smile were so true and welcoming. Danny loved his “critters,” nurturing injured and abandoned animals of all kinds back to health and keeping his birdfeeders filled faithfully. His backyard was a place of peace adorned with beautiful koi ponds that he created. Danny took great pride in his West Virginia roots and loved to visit whenever he could. He couldn’t wait to share the history and beauty of his home state with his loved ones. His humor and laughter will be truly missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver Street in Middletown.   To share memories or express condolences online please visit
